Native American Pottery-Jemez Pueblo Red Clay Pottery-MUDHEAD STORYTELLER Sculpture-Ben Fraqua
Native American Pottery - 100% Authentic Jemez Pueblo Pottery - Jemez pottery Red Clay Mudhead Storyteller sculpture. Handmade and hand painted.
Originally called "singing mother," a Storyteller is a clay figurine made by the Pueblo Tribes of New Mexico. A Storyteller sculpture is of any human or animal figure covered with smaller children or animals. Storytellers are one of the most collectible and sought after forms of Native American clay art.
Many Pueblo Tribe traditions include the Mudhead Clown, or Sacred Clown, a masked figure who works as disciplinarian, joker, and village crier. Both wise and jester at the same time, Mudhead Sacred Clowns act as a reminder of the human journey of weakness and redemption. Their amusing dances and appearance carry a serious message with humor.
