Native American Pottery-Jemez Pueblo Pottery Traditional Handmade Wedding Vase-Mary Small
Native American Pottery - 100% Authentic Jemez Pueblo Pottery - Traditional Jemez pottery Red Clay Wedding Vase. Handmade and hand painted by Jemez Pueblo potter Mary Small.
A Wedding Vase is a vessel still used in traditional Pueblo wedding ceremonies. One spout of the vessel represents each partner. The looped handle represents the unity achieved with marriage. The space created within the loop represents the circle of life. In a traditional ceremony the couple drink from the spouts to represent the blending of their lives.
Mary Small is an award winning Jemez Pueblo Potter. She hand coils and paints each pot. After experimenting with natural paints, Mary came up with her unique blue/gray slip and burnt red/orange designs.
